Photodynamic therapy (PDT) uses blue light at 410 nm with or without a laser source, such as the Candela V-Beam pulsed dye laser, to remove precancerous and inflammatory skin conditions on the face, as well as other areas. During the procedure, Levulan Kerastick is applied to the skin prior to photoactivation with one or more light sources or lasers. After photoactivation of the Levulan, the patient avoids outdoor light for 48 hours, as the skin exfoliates sun damage and precancers. Healing is finished normally within 5-7 days on the face, 7-14 days on the arms and chest. This is best used on those with the "cooked Caucasian syndrome" who have had too much sun and need a quick fix to remove wrinkles as well as precancerous skin conditions.
