new in early 2005, are composed of hyaluronic acid, the main component of human joint fluid and tissue fluid in the skin. These products hold their shape quite well in the nasolabial folds, chin, and lips. Some of these products can last 6 months or longer in the skin, depending on the volume used and the location placed. These hylaluronic acid fillers do not require skin tests, however Hylaform® is avoided in those allergic to chickens.

new since 2002, is derived from purified human dermal tissue grown under controlled conditions, and does best with tiny lines around the lipline and other areas on the face. No skin test is required, and treatment results last up to six months. It may be used in combination with Hylaform® or Restylane®.

, new since the fall of 2004, is a synthetic material, made of poly-L-lactic acid, which is used as a series of treatments to treat facial thinning problems especially in the cheek, perioral, and temple area in those who have lost too much weight in their face, as well as being used in the treatment of rhytides in Europe for many years. No skin test is required. The improvement lasts 2 years or longer in the clinical trials recently reviewed by the FDA. Drs. Roper, Moreland and Bickle were the first in the Tampa Bay Area to use Sculptra™ and are most knowledgeable in the use of this product.

is the first and only FDA approved non-resorbable wrinkle filler for the correction of smile lines which gives immediate, visible results with no downtime. It improves over the course of several months, and usually requires only 1-2 treatments. It does, however, require a skin test to the product at least 4 weeks prior to the treatment. Artefill contains PMMA microspheres and purified bovine collagen gel coupled with an anesthetic that acts as a dual-acting injectable wrinkle filler with immediate results and results that improve over time. The unique microspheres in Artefill are not absorbed by the body, providing a permanent support to the skin for long-lasting wrinkle correction.

is a very smooth injectable dermal filler made from a natural substance found in tissue fluid, hyaluronic acid, which is synthesized using “Hylacross” technology to give long lasting results and a ‘smooth feel’ when implanted into deep crevices on the face, such as smile lines. Since Juvederm is non-animal based and highly biocompatible, no skin test is needed. Results seem to last as long as other hyaluronic products, such as Restylane, however, our patients report that the product can last up to a year or longer.
